Topic: Horse show updates
Well, we've been busy this season. We aren't showing as hard as we did a couple years ago but we're showing well.
WK Andrew Ripped One has been fantastic. He won money at the state fair and then won points at his second show in Sterling IL on July 28th. He took a few firsts and placed 2nd in the futurity.. WTG Andrew.
We showed WK Tsunami Tides in Peoria and she took 3rds out of nine mares. It was her first hunter in hand pattern and I thought she did really well as well as recieving points. She's only two and I didn't have her in training very long before then. She also recieved a point in Most Colorful out of 13 horses she got a 4th under one judge.
She came up sore on the front from trimming and is doing fine with that but decided to cut her back leg. She isn't done yet..she just needs time and she's back in the show pen.
WK Absolutely a Titan is the yearling stallion we have been showing. Lynn has been fitting him and doing all the work. All that work finally paid off. He was placing OK at the beginning of the season (though a trainer/judge we know thinks he should have placed better) and did well on the 28th of July in Sterling -taking a 2nd under one judge in Non-Pro and Open. Lynn has been showing Non-pro and I take him in the open.
Our big payoff was in Cedar Rapids the next weekend (August 5th) when a big name trainers' colt was there without his trainer..(only the owners, and trainers crew) and we beat him under 3 judges; taking 3-2nds in non pro and 3-2nds in the open. It was a fair show against this colt because trainer/judge politics didn't come into play. The colts -who show against each other or will often- were fairly put to the test this time. The colts were judged and not the trainers. It was eye opening. Without his trainer at the lead or showing the judges ahead of time that it was "his" colt..we placed over him...hmmmmmm....
Of course we were thrilled, but also a little saddened at how judging works sometimes. Though, it's nothing we weren't aware of, it's just talked about behind stall doors.
Justy and I did a couple of barrel races at the fair and she gets better all the time. She's only been doing the pattern for a few months. I expect by next year she'll be really good. She was barely out of the money in Menden.
I have Skipper started on conditioning..though with 103 degree weather we aren't doing a whole lot. Im up early getting Devon to football practice (5am..yuck) and its a bit cooler then.
Thats all for now. Next weekend we're in Sterling again with the boys.
